Information

With the morning tour option, meet your private guide at your centrally located hotel in Trieste or at the port to begin exploring the city. To discover Trieste's roots, you'll travel to San Giusto Hill, a site of ancient Roman ruins, the medieval castle, and San Giusto Cathedral, which holds wonderful Byzantine mosaics and medieval frescoes. In the lower part of the city, stroll along an elegant waterfront and the "Teresian" quarter and be captivated by the beauty of Trieste's palaces and buildings, including the Giuseppe Verdi Opera House, the Commodity Exchange building, Greek and Serbian Orthodox chapels, and the imposing St. Anthony's Church near the Grand Canal. The tour will end at the beautiful Piazza Unità d'Italia, Italy's largest square overlooking the sea, where you can enjoy an Italian gelato, cappuccino or espresso.

If you prefer an afternoon tour, you will equally meet your guide at the centrally located hotel in Trieste or from the port. Then, board a private vehicle and first reach Risiera di San Sabba, the only Nazi concentration camp in Italy. Visit the various parts of the facility that served as a detention camp for political prisoners and transit area for Jews, many of whom were deported to Auschwitz. Explore the museum, view photographs and documents, and receive personal attention as you hear the story of the prisoners who suffered there. After visiting the site, move on to Miramare to visit the romantic residence of Maximilian of Habsburg and Charlotte of Belgium and its beautiful grounds. Visit its interiors, furnished with sumptuous and original furniture and decorations, and take a stroll through the surrounding English and Italian-style garden, filled with rare plants, sculptures, and ponds. Protected by coastal rocks, Miramare Castle also offers visitors the chance to admire the most enchanting views of Trieste and its gulf. At the end of the tour return to Piazza Unità d'Italia.
