Description

Kayak in Florence: finally we can see this beautiful city from a different perspective! Together with the section on the outskirts of the city with its mills and gualchiere and the glimpses of the river corridor with its green banks this is our excursion that completes our ideal "Florence from the water" itinerary: the historic center seen from the water has a completely different perspective and, if we then "walk" on the water, it has a special flavor!

The Ponte Vecchio is one of the symbols of Florence and one of the most famous bridges in the world. It crosses the river Arno just downstream of the area where the river naturally has the narrowest riverbed within the city of Florence in its stretch upstream of the Cascine. The area in question is at the Canottieri below the Uffizi. In ancient times there was a ford. In 1565 architect Giorgio Vasari built for Cosimo I the "Vasarian Corridor," with the purpose of connecting the political and administrative center at Palazzo Vecchio with the Medici's private residence, Palazzo Pitti. The elevated corridor, about one kilometer long and built in just five months, starts from the Palazzo Vecchio, passes by the Uffizi Gallery, runs along the Archibusieri riverfront and continues on the left bank ("Oltrarno") to Palazzo Pitti
