The architectural structure of the structure dates mainly from the early Christian period, but in some perimeters also from the Etruscan period.
It was built in 1100 by Benedictine monks. Then in the 1400s it became the residence of Cardinal Della Rovere. The hotel takes its name from the cardinal and papal coats of arms still present in the structure.
