Trapani-Centro Storico

While traversing the streets of the historic center, it is possible to admire numerous ancient monuments such as the Palazzo Senatorio, Trapani Cathedral of San Lorenzo, Church of the Anime del Purgatorio. One of the most majestic places in Trapani is Vittorio Emanuele Square with the statue of the King in the center, dating from 1890. Along the coast stand ancient walls which extend to the harbor, the latter a symbol of one of the historical traditions such as fishing.

The Salt Pans

Extending for about 1,000 hectares on the coastal strip of Trapani, the salt pans enjoy an excellent strategic point concerning its ancient activity of Salt Extraction, which since Phoenician times has been a great resource in commercial interchange. Since 1995 it has become a protected nature reserve, managed by WWF ITALY. Despite the fact that the reserve is protected, the activity of salt mining is always enhanced.
