Presentation

The Antico Borgo di Tabiano Castello is a hotel charming spread throughout the historic dwellings of the fortified complex of Tabiano Castello. Located more than 300 meters above sea level, among the hills of the province of Parma, nestled among oak forests and unspoiled countryside, it dominates the plain with views as far as the eye can see, from the Alps to the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

The Village and Castle of Tabiano date back to the 11th century and were built on the ruins of a Roman settlement. A military fortress of the Marchesi Pallavicino, one of the most powerful families of the Ghibelline faith at the time, Tabiano was at the center of many historical events. It dominated a strategic area for the passage of the via Francigena and the nearby salt flats of Salsomaggiore and Salso minor.

The imposing Castle stands on a rocky chunk overlooking the Borgo. An elaborate defensive system contributes to making the stronghold virtually impregnable: even today in the village one can admire the Guard Tower (13th century), which with its drawbridge formed the main entrance to the Castle, the circular bastions to the north and south(12th century) and the various walls.

Today Tabiano has been transformed from a defense fortress and agricultural center into Relais di Charme. Thanks to a patient renovation effort by the owners, its authenticity and charm has been preserved, while having all the comforts of the present; with great attention paid to respecting history, environmental sustainability and ties to the land. Here, electricity and hot water come from solar panels and heating from cleaning our forests, using wood boilers and recovering old stoves and fireplaces.
