The Tour's itinerary will wind through the Sassi (Barisano and Caveoso) and the Historic Center of Matera admiring breathtaking views and unique glimpses.

Detailed programme

Starting from Saint Francis Square, where the Baroque Church of St. Francis of Assisi  from which the square takes its name stands out .

Following Via del Corso the so-called "Plan of the City " or Centro Storico, consisting of Palaces, Churches and Monuments of the " Eighteenth-Century Ridge" , continuing from Via delle Beccherie one arrives in Piazza del Sedile, where the Conservatory of Music Egidio Romualdo Duni, formerly City Palace and seat of the Commune of Matera and where begins Via Duomo bounded by the entrance gates named, Gate De Juso and Gate De Suso .

We will thus find ourselves in Piazza Duomo in the Civita district, the oldest in the City, where we will visit the Pugliese Romanesque style cathedral dating back to 1270 surrounded by noble palaces of the period : Palazzo Gattini ( Conti Gattini ), Palazzo Venusio ( Marchesi di Venusio ), Palazzo Malvinni Malvezzi ( Duchi Malvinni Malvezzi ) .

From Dome Square we will move to the Main Vittorio Veneto Square in the heart of the Center Historic Center of Matera, where the Hypogeum ( Underground Matera ) with inside a huge cistern with 15-meter-high walls called Palombaro Lungo and the rock church of the Santo Spirito dating back to the 10th century AD.c. .

We will continue the Tour towards the entrance of the Sassi and through Via D'Addozio we will reach the Sasso Barisano to admire its unique view at the Church of Sant'Agostino.

Following Via D'Addozio, Via Sant'Antonio Abate and Via Madonna delle Virtù, we will arrive at Porta Pistola, where we will admire the breathtaking view of Parco della Murgia Materana, traversed by the Gravina stream and dotted with prehistoric caves that testify to the presence of man from Paleolithic to Neolithic times.

After that we will reach Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, where we will visit the Church of St. Peter Caveoso , the city's ancient parish church, located overlooking the overhang of the Gravina, dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul.

And finally we will leave the Sassi by Via Bruno Buozzi ending the Standard Tour by Ape Calessino in Pascoli Square.
