Detailed programme
Program :
- The visit to the archaeological park of Herculaneum is a fascinating journey back in time. The elegance of the domus , the state of preservation of many furnishings (wood and charred organic materials) and decorative elements (frescoes, columns, antefixes and sculptures) will surprise you at every step .
The town of Herculaneum stood at the foot of Vesuvius on a plateau overlooking the sea bordered by two streams. In the years before the eruption, its four thousand inhabitants lived mainly by fishing trade. - A visit to the Archaeological Excavations of Herculaneum is characterized by the great variety of excellently preserved dwellings: houses with traditional layouts, multi-family tenements, grand and elegant residences with gardens overlooking the sea and abutting the walls with baths and gymnasium. At Herculaneum it is easy to imagine gestures and customs of our ancestors of 2000 years ago, but most of all it is easy to immerse oneself in their daily life and discover that after all, they are not so dissimilar to us.
- Portarsa Railway Museum, its workshops were Italy's first factory of locomotives, rails and rolling stock. Since 1989 they have become home to one of the world's largest Railway Museums.
