Visit to the Martelli Pasta Factory with Tasting
In Lari, hidden within the high walls of the old medieval village, there has been the small Martelli Family Pasta Factory since 1926. In contrast to large industrial plants, this is still a traditional artisan pasta factory that uses only 100% Italian durum wheat. Artisan because it houses a total of 8 people, all members of the Martelli family. Traditional because behind every process, from kneading to packaging, is the skilled hand of a Master Pasta Maker. After your visit you can walk to Fabio and Tatiana's agriturismo for a pasta tasting.
Every year many people come to visit the pasta factory, to discover the secrets of this little piece of paradise. They come from all over the world united by their great love for good pasta. If you are passing through between Pisa and Florence, stop in Lari: the doors of Martelli's home are always open. In contrast to large industrial plants, this is still a traditional pasta factory. Here, between slow gestures and vintage machinery, a 100% artisanal semolina pasta is born. Artisanal because a total of 8 people work there, all members of the Martelli family. Traditional because behind every process, from kneading to packaging, is the skilled hand of a Master Pasta Maker.
Meeting at the pasta factory with a family member, tour and presentation of about 30 minutes, also in English. Recommended visit the Castle in front of the pasta factory or an artisanal ice cream at the corner. After the visit you will reach the restaurant, where Fabio and Tatiana will be waiting for you for a tasting of 3 samples of Martelli pasta with wine/water. The restaurant is open for lunch.
One of the family businesses that has been working for almost a hundred years producing pasta using artisanal methods. They are always smiling when you arrive and Luca is really funny as well as professional. At Fabio and Tatiana's restaurant we always find a cozy atmosphere: in winter the fireplace is lit, in summer the outdoor tables with a view of the village. They also have a selection of important wines from the area and other typical products.
Organized tour of the pasta factory, ideal time before lunch - to be arranged in advance.
Production takes place on Monday and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with various pasta shapes every day.
Wednesday and Saturday there is no production but cutting and packaging.
The country restaurant is reached by a walk of about 1km (15 minutes).
Tasting at lunchtime: 12:30-3 p.m., in Italian, English and French.
A plate will be served with three samples of pasta, with three different sauces and three different pasta shapes, all accompanied by water and usually a glass of wine.
