Description

In the beautiful Piedmontese countryside, and more precisely in the area of Cuneo's Langhe in the territory of the municipality of La Morra, hides an incredible colorful little church unique in Italy.

Built in 1914 as a shelter for workers in the surrounding vineyards in case of storms or hailstorms, The Chapel of SS. Madonna delle Grazie, better known today as Cappella del Barolo, was purchased by the Ceretto family in 1970 along with 6 hectares of the prestigious Brunate vineyard. The church, which was never consecrated, still stands today in this vineyard in La Morra and is still owned by the Ceretto family.

Demolished, abandoned for years and reduced to ruins, the church was renovated by the Ceretto family in the late 1990s and has now become one of the most well-known and admired buildings in the area.

The renovation was entrusted to the artists Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett who were able to transform a ruined building into a splendid testimony of contemporary art.

For the renovations, LeWitt took care of the exterior with a playful and lively color scheme, while Tremlett took care of the warm and serene interior decorations.
