In the archaeological area of Roca Vecchia you can admire the Grotte della Poesia a natural pool in the cliffs with karst formation.
You can visit the ancient towers, built on the rocky coast to guard the bays and stretches of the Salento coast.
In particular, they are part of a complex defensive system wanted in the early decades of the 1500s by Emperor Charles V to counter the raids of Saracen pirates, and although they were garrisoned inside by armed men, they were accessed from above by a wooden ladder that was lowered from the upper floor.
It is for this reason that the stone staircases visible today at some towers were built only when threats from sea and land ceased.
With the ticket you can visit both the Archaeological Area of Grotte della Poesia (tour of about 30 minutes) and the Archaeological Area of Roca Vecchia (tour of about 60 minutes), provided that the two visits are conducted on the same day and in conjunction with the openings of the Archaeological Area of Roca Vecchia.
The ticket includes the accompaniment of a tourist and/or environmental-excursion guide (ITA/ENG guides and other languages by reservation), the use of QR Codes located along the routes and at the main points of interest, as well as the possible enjoyment of multimedia content through dedicated tablets and viewers.
