Expert's presentation

After the fall of Napoleon and the dismantling of his army, a number of officers moved to the Langhe from neighboring France. Experts in war technology and fortress construction, they designed fortified buildings in many villages that served as noble dwellings and often housed cellars for the winemaking of the area's renowned grape varieties.

The Rocche Costamagna winery was built in the very years immediately following the Congress of Vienna and still retains its early 19th-century layout. The first floor, where the stables used to be, now houses the Enoteca, the museum and the Libri da Gustare Library.

The former barn now houses the Art Suites, while the basement floors are dedicated to the aging of wines, as they are suitable for optimal temperatures and humidity. The walk through the cellar is impactful, where the evocative vaults and thick walls of brick and Langa stone frame sets of Slavonian oak barrels and thousands of bottles left to rest.
