Detailed programme
Program :
- A visit to the archaeological park of Herculaneum is a fascinating journey back in time. The elegance of the domus , the state of preservation of many furnishings (wood and charred organic materials) and decorative elements (frescoes, columns, antefixes and sculptures) will surprise you at every step .
The town of Herculaneum stood at the foot of Vesuvius on a plateau overlooking the sea bordered by two streams. In the years before the eruption, its four thousand inhabitants lived mainly by fishing trade. - A visit to the Archaeological Excavations of Herculaneum is characterized by the great variety of excellently preserved dwellings: houses with traditional layouts, multi-family tenements, grand and elegant residences with gardens overlooking the sea and abutting the walls with baths and gymnasium. At Herculaneum, it is easy to imagine gestures and customs of our ancestors of 2,000 years ago, but above all, it is easy to immerse oneself in their daily life and discover that they are not so dissimilar to us after all.
- Lunch break and move to PORTICI for the continuation of the tour.
- The Portarsa Railway Museum, its workshops were Italy's first factory for locomotives, rails and rolling stock. Since 1989 they have become home to one of the world's largest Railway Museums.
